The Adventures of Safari Tom

Safari Tom .  Saving the Earth and all its inhabitants , One day at a time !

Updated June 19th 2009

Welcome EVERYBODY  COME IN AND TAKE A LOOK AROUND,

AND  YES , THAT IS ME SINGING AND PLAYING THE INTRO .

We finally have eggs from our threatened Black Pinesnakes! These should be hatching around the first week of July!

Check out SpearKilla, my Spearfishing clothing website. All proceeds go directly towards helping wildlife and domestic rescues !

There are way to may people disconnected from nature, If this doesn't change we will lose precious species to extinction. Please do what you can to prevent this ! Go to www.defenders.org  to learn more !

Myself and Jeff Corwin at the 2006 Defenders of Wildlife Carnivores Conference The focus was on conservation and the reintroduction of the Grey Wolf into its natural habitat.

This is a link to a creature that I am drawn to. It is called a Thylacine aka the Tasmanian Tiger. Man caused its extinction in the late 1930's after the Tasmanian Government enacted a bounty for every head.. There have been numerous reports of sightings over the years and even some captivating video footage. Does it still exist? We need funding to start an expedition into remote Tasmania and Isolated parts of Australia. If willing to fund an expedition contact Safaritom@aol.com

To look at a picture of the Thylacine, and gaze into its eyes, you can't help but feel its haunting allure and the sadness it portrays.

The picture above is of "Benjamin" the last Thylacine in captivity. He died due to being kept in poor conditions and being exposed to freezing temperatures without shelter.

Introducing Zoe ...

RESCUED - 6/18/09

Zoe is a Saint Bernard we initially found on Craigslist. She was listed as Free to Good home and was in dire need of medical attention. Unfortunately all my emails were going directly to the owners"SPAM" mail box. She then took Zoe to the Suncoast Humane Society in Englewood FL.   When she was surrendered she was extremely emaciated (skin and bones), flea infested , anemic, intestinal worm infested, eye infections and weak. The entire staff at Suncoast Humane Society were extremely friendly and very concerned with Zoes' condition. They had just received her and within a day or so she had already seen by a veterinarian and was flea free and on the road to recovery!  She is now with us and will be a permanent part of our family. She is a gentle giant...

Notice her ribs and spine and flank !    The ride home

I will update her ever improving condition frequently ...

Please consider adopting a pet, Never buy one from a pet store. If interested in adopting a lifelong friend, contact the Suncoast Humane Society in Englewood FL. They have a wonderful website updated with the animals available for adoption.

Picture of the Week

A Bitey Black Racer found in my yard...

This is a rescued baby squirrel. I am currently nursing and hoping to return him to the wild  by the end of January 2007.

This is a Colombian Tegu.  This species is known for being ridiculously aggressive and unhandleable ... Just call me the Lizard Whisperer ...

Email any pics you feel may be worthy of being the " pic of the week "  , If I post your pic you win all the fame and fortune of having your pic posted on my prestigious website!! Send any pics to Safaritom@aol.com

My 2 Cents

I am a full fledge naturalist devoted to saving our planet and all its inhabitants.

I believe in common sense and doing the right thing . I do not believe in being prejudice and I hate Ignorance. Ignorance is a lack of  knowledge. Education could transform the most ignorant into our strongest allies.

If you get to know an animal , studied and learned from one , You  would have a new-found perception of just how unique and special they are.

I have a love for our world and I see a beauty in everything natural , From an old dead tree to dolphin leaping over high tide.

Every dog and cat in my home is a rescue from the street or from the pound. They are my friends for life. Pets are not disposable. They are there for life and should never be given up or thrown  away. Would you give away your children?

Adopt an animal from a shelter or the streets and give it love and care  for its lifetime.

I believe if a person sees an animal in need he/she should help it . Would you help a child ?  They are all children.

I rescue all creatures every chance I get , And I get a lot of chances!

You should too.

To Katerina ,

You are the  love of my life ! You are the  most amazing and passionate woman I have ever met . My one true life and soul mate.

Eastern Box Turtle Rescued

I've been rescuing my fair share of turtles and tortoises almost on a daily  Basis .. One of the cutest is this 3 and 3/4 legged Box Turtle. I'm   not sure how he lost his  foot  but it is well heeled and he is spunky as heck ...he will either be released or sent to an outdoor home with other turtles and tortoises.

And Sadly ...........

And on a sad note ....I spotted a HUGE dead  alligator on SR 37 ,  15 miles South of Lakeland  FL...This is the largest  alligator  I have ever seen in the wild...  The stench was horrible...his skin was alive with movement from  squirming maggots and flies. I estimate him to be at 12ft long and approximately 500 pounds.. He had been hit by a  vehicle of some sort ...here is the proof.. ( how could you not have seen this guy ??) This was a tragic end to an old  man doing what he could  to survive.

Click to enlarge    A crushed skull  ( note the MASSIVE HEAD)

Click to enlarge     Next to my Xterra ...he was 12ft  Plus !!

This is me on location on Boca Grande Island off the southwestern coast of Florida. I was filming Plight of the Spiny Tailed Iguanas when I happened upon  a black Racer.  Here I have caught him and had already been bitten several times by this grumpy little snake !

Words  we should live by ;

" You will never feel as good in your life as you do when you help an animal and save its life or save it from a miserable existence. The gratitude you receive is knowing that you did something good to help another living being have a better life , That is good for all human beings "

Quoted from John Paul of Paul Mitchell .

If you like what im doing feel free to make a donation ! It could really help me with all that i have going on at any given time !!

Anything would be greatly appreciated!
